Football
Thomas Johnson youth football is a non-competitive (5-6yo) and competitive (7-13yo) based football program. We strive to provide each athlete with proper training and coaching to grow not only their athletic prowess, but to build proper character and strengthen the bonds of friendship as well as instill leadership qualities.

Non-competitive Football ages 5-6 yrs (age as of 09/01/2025)
Competitive Football ages 7-13 yrs (age as of 08/01/2025)

Practices will be held at GTJHS.
Games will be a mix of home and away. Home field is GTJHS stadium
Practices
Practices will be held on grass field behind GTJHS stadium.
During the summer months (before Frederick County Schools begin) teams are allowed unlimited practice. A schedule will be determined by each Head Coach and the Athletic Director.
Once school is in session, practices will be reduced to the league maximum six hours per week and will be determined by your child's coach based on field availability.
Games
TJYAA has returned to the CCYFCL (Carroll County Youth Football and Cheerleading League). Currently there are 11 programs that represent the CCYFCL which will have rotating games throughout the season. A game schedule with locations will be provided in August. Parents can expect up to 1 hour travel time for some field locations
Jerseys
Football players will be provided with helmet, shoulder pads & game jersey
*** Players will need to provide mouthpiece, cleats, game cup, as well as football pants (links will be provided for pants in sign up email)
Extra Costs
All Football players will be required to have a necessary ID in order to be placed on a roster.
CCFL League ID for teams from 5/6 to 10U cost is 2yr for $20 or 1yr for $10.
MD State ID can be used for 11U and older.
Each team will collect money towards game day snacks. Amount TBD per team

Q: What kind of coaching staff will be working with my child?
A: Our coaches are experienced, background-checked individuals who are trained in youth football and have a passion for teaching the game in a safe, fun environment. Our coaches all acquire USA Football Coach Certification.
Q: What safety measures are in place to prevent injuries?
A: Safety is our top priority. All coaches are trained in proper techniques for tackling and blocking, ensuring players are taught how to minimize risk of injury. We follow guidelines for practice routines, and all equipment is regularly checked for safety.
Q: Is TJYAA Football and Cheer a feeder program for TJ high school?
A: TJYAA Football and Cheer program is associated with Governor Thomas Johnson High School but is currently operating as a private program that participates in the Carroll County Youth Football and Cheer League. This means we can accept participants across the region, practice locally at TJ fields, and enjoy a competitive league where our program can continue to develop and grow. Our football program is closely aligned with the high school, working directly with the head coach and staff.
Q: Can parents be involved?
A: Absolutely! We encourage parents to support the team, whether by volunteering during games or practices, helping with team events, or simply cheering from the sidelines. Opportunities to volunteer are presented during the registration process up front and throughout the season.
